My tip of the week this week comes from a stranded traveller. I shall make it short, so as to fill you in on the whole shenanigans in a blog on its own.
The tip this week is:
NEVER. I repeat. NEVER try to fly Air France, particularly out of Cairo International Airport.
Unless of course incompetence is your forte. Then you can gladly go and WORK for Air France. It's their primary hiring tactic. Find the most inept staff, then have them try to run an effing airline.
If you are going to try and fly Air France, bring a good book. You'll be made to wait around a lot. Oh, and wear comfortable shoes. They don't like people sitting down.
That is all.

Suz's Tip of the Week
Here's a tip that I just recently picked up, which I have to stay astounded me.
I've always suffered from brittle nails, breaking all the time or just not being strong enough to grow substantially. I've tried many things to remedy this problem, to no avail.
This past weekend, I heard of a tip that can simply help to remedy this problem. Something that most of us will have on hand in the kitchen. Garlic.
That's right, garlic. Take a clove of garlic, and chop it into small pieces. Let your fingernails sit in the garlic for a couple of minutes, a few times a week, and you'll notice dramatic increase in the strength of your nails.
You may wonder wtf Suz, I may have strong nails, but my fingers are gonna stink, but worry not, I have a remedy for that too!
Find yourself a stainless steel appliance in your kitchen, be it a knife, spoon, what have you. Rub the metal along your fingers, and you'll magically remove the garlic smell. If you're using a knife, be smart, and DO NOT use the sharp edge. Geez.
If you can't find a stainless steel appliance, just rub your fingers along the drain in your sink. Very few sinks do not use Stainless steel for the drains.
There you have it, Suz's tip to stronger, healthier nails, without the stank!

Suz's tip of the week
Another one for the ladies!!
Have you ever spent hours in front of the mirror getting your make-up just right for that big night out, only to smudge your eye 5 minutes after applying. Then trying to readjust and get it perfect seems to botch the whole job?
How about when you've been out for a little while already, and you look as though you could enter a lookalike competition with a raccoon, or a host of other ringed eyed animals.
Here's a great solution for you. A little spritz of hairspray. I have tried this myself, and woke up the next morning with my make up looking exactly the same (obviously, too "tired" to use my own advice of the vaseline make up remover ;) )
So close your eyes, and give them a little spray. Voila, perfect make-up, all night long.

Suz's tip of the week
Here's a tip that any red wine drinker will appreciate, because, let's face it - red wine stains are the worst. Particularly when you've got that luscious cream carpet in your living room, which has now been decorated with fresh red wine. :S
Most people will tell you there's little you can do to get rid of a red wine stain. I'm here to tell them they're wrong!
Next time you spill the red, grab the salt. Yes, plain old table salt. Cover the area with salt, and let sit for about 30 minutes. The salt will soak up the staining qualities in the red wine, leaving you able to hoover up the salt, and dab away the remaining stain.
Needless to say, this also works with red wine stains elsewhere other than your carpet. :) Happy drinking!

Suz's tip of the week
Ok, ok, I know it's been a couple weeks since the last "tip of the week," but hey, I've been so busy trying to keep up with everything offline, that keeping up online becomes very difficult! Nevertheless, I have a couple tips stored up ;)
This weeks tip will benefit anyone who has ever braved the streets in Egypt, particularly those who are brave (or stupid?) enough to drive the highways at night. Highways is perhaps not the correct term, lets say tarmacked stretches of road without lighting spanning the country. Lanes are non-existent; in fact often times these "highways" are no more than a two way street that will test your daring and driving skills.
Anyhow, if you have ever driven these roads at night, surely you have noticed the infuriating cars that come barelling down upon you, headlights blaring, flashing at you reprimanding your mediocre speeds of 100 km an hour. Worse is when these cars remain directly behind you, and miss (or simply ignore) the common driver courtesy of actually turning off their headlights.
Not to worry, I'm here to tell you the simple and effective means of communicating to the drivers to kindly TURN OFF YOUR DAMN HEADLIGHTS. lol.
It takes no more than a quick flash of your indicators. Once right, then left, then right, then left. Voila, Egyptian auto-speak for shut off your lights momkin!
So for us expats that thought such driving manners would be taught in driving school, oh...wait never mind. Most drivers here miss this elementary part of driving 101. Fortunately, now you know :)

Suz's Tip of the Week
Ok, here's a tip that anyone will appreciate.
Having a problem with rusty pipes or car engines? Grime around the bathroom tub and toilet? You've tried everything short of replacing each part individually, yet you cannot get rid of that orange dust. So what can you do?
Not like sitting there drinking a coke will help, but if your pour that stuff all over your engine, toilet, bath, whatever, you'll notice grime and rust disappear. Think about that for a second, something that you may imbibe on a weekly / daily basis, has the ability to strip rust off of a car engine. Mmmm. That's good drinking!
Also, if you have clogged drains, and are too cheap to buy Draino, or cannot find an equivalent in your country (such as Egypt), Coke will also do the trick there :D

Suz's Tip of the Week
Ok...I know, another girly tip.
Boys, not that there are many that actually read this ( :p) bear with me.
To get rid of nasty, horrible foot pain as a result of women's need to dress to impress, soak your feet in vodka.
That's right, plain old vodka. After a night on the town, in those new heels that you just had to wear, yet wonder where your common sense was, throw your feet into a tub of vodka.
Note: It is your own personal choice if you choose to consume the vodka after soaking your feet. :p

Suz's tip of the week
My friend Laura suggested that I start this segment of the blog, seeing as how I am so full of random and seemingly useless information. Who knows, maybe by putting one of this silly little notes up, someone can learn something from it! :D
My first tip of the week, is one that many women will thank me for. I cannot unfortunately remember who first passed this tip on to me, BUT, I have to thank them whoever it is.
Women spend a lot of money on make up. Mascara, concealer, eye shadows, the list goes on. As we want our make up to stay put for the day, the long lasting shadows, eyeliners, and mascara are the best choices. But this can also mean scrubbing to remove the make up at the end of the day, or sleeping and waking up a panda bear the next morning.
If you're like me, most make up removal lotions / tonics do not work. My skin is sensitive to a lot of face lotions and make-up removers, ad they either give me loads of pimples, or dry my skin out to the point that it is itchy. Changing make-up removers again and again is annoying, not to mention expensive after a while.
The solution is cheap, and most of us have it in our bathrooms, but never think to try it.
Vaseline. Petroleum Jelly, nature's natural cure to make up. Dab a little bit of Vaseline on a cotton wool bud, and you can remove your make up, while moisturizing your skin at the same time. Better still, it doesn't give you pimples! It takes everything off...water proof eyeliner / mascara, shadows...everything!
So yes, that would be Suz's tip of the week :D
